Description
Native American Studies Archive, Galleries, and Collections: USC Lancaster Native American Studies Center Galleries consist of 6,500 square feet of gallery space made possible by the City of Lancaster. Currently, the Center houses three of the galleries named after donors to the Native American Studies Center... The center is in the process of creating a research inventory of Native American arts and crafts collections from museums, universities, and influential private collections statewide in order to give researchers a list of all topic related collections in the state, contact information, background information and photos." The pottery collections–including The Duke Energy Collection and the Thomas J. Blumer Collections–are comprised of over thirteen hundred pieces of pottery, archaeological artifacts, and other Native American crafts. "The Native American Studies Archive seeks to acquire, preserve, catalog, organize, and disseminate information relating to Native American history and culture, with emphasis on South Carolina and surrounding areas." Several relevant collections are indexed or available digitally, including the T.J. Blumer Collection of Catawba Indian Photographs and Slides: The Catawba Indian collection was created using slides and photographs from the Native American Studies Archive at USC Lancaster. Many of the photographs and slides depict the Catawba reservation, pottery, people, and buildings. See website for details on access to physical collections held by the Archive.
