Description
Approximately 266,000 catalog records (825,000 items) representing over 12,000 years of history and more than 1,200 indigenous cultures throughout the Americas. "Current holdings include all major culture areas of the Western Hemisphere, representing virtually all tribes in the United States, most of those of Canada, and a significant number of cultures from Middle and South America and the Caribbean." Collections include the Vine Deloria, Jr. Library, Cultural Resources Center, webcasts, as well as media, photographic, and object archives. Of specific relevance are the following collections: online exhibits, Central American Ceramics, Narrative Art of the Plains, audio recordings of the Living Voices Project, and Treaties and Transcripts. An appointment is necessary to access collections in any of the physical repositories, some material in collections are restricted, see website for details.
