Description
The site hosts podcasts, and online exhibits, as well as various video and audio recordings of presentations, archived lectures, and performances. In addition to current exhibits on display, object, archival, and archaeology collections are kept on site for research in addition to a library. Holdings include 8,000 historic and contemporary images; manuscript archives documenting early Laboratory of Anthropology staff projects; and papers and correspondence relating to the history of anthropology in the Southwest. Pottery, baskets, and sculpture as well as the "largest assemblage of archaeological materials in New Mexico... with an estimated 8 million artifacts and samples cataloged by container, and approximately 35,000 individually catalogued artifacts, along with more than 250 linear ft. of accompanying notes, maps, and photos"; The "Laboratory of Anthropology Library, a research-level library dedicated to the study of Native cultures, anthropology and archaeology of the Southwestern United States, Mexico and Central America.... has particularly strong holdings of prehispanic through contemporary greater Southwest Indian arts and culture... The LOA Library actively collects Cultural Resources Management history, methodology, and theory publications as well as greater Southwest theses and dissertations, conference proceedings, archaeological reports, government documents, gray literature, and ephemera. A searchable online catalog is available; The museum has also helped to create the Indigenous Digital Archive, with digitized resources made available from the original documents held by the US National Archives and the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, the documents made available so far focus on "records related to the early government boarding schools and Native rights to land and water."
