Description
Bdote Memory Map: A resource being developed for understanding more about the Dakota people's relationship to Minnesota. "The Bdote Memory Map began as a part of the "City Indians" multi-media installation at Ancient Traders Gallery on Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis in 2005... The intent of the Memory Map portion of the City Indians installation was to express the historic and continued connection of Dakota people to places familiar to citizens and visitors of the area. Introduction of traditional and sometimes sacred places erased in public community memory is important to the task of recognizing this region as Dakota homeland. This interactive map of the Dakota Indians’ homeland invites visitors to add their stories of traditional Dakota sites to the map as an ongoing effort to compile the history of the region. Contains geographically indexed information, and audio-visual content in visual representations of some of the traditional Dakota sites in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Resources are also found on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr, and on mobile devices. Associated podcasts are also being developed and should be available soon. Limited native language material also available on site.
