McLean County Museum of History and Illinois State University

Description
"Illinois Digital Archives (IDA) was created in 2000, as a repository for the digital collections of the Illinois State Library as well as other libraries and cultural institutions in the State of Illinois." The Illinois State Library and Digital Archives offer various resources relating to Native Americans in the state. Notable collections include the McLean County Museum of History's digitized Native American collection, which includes "pre-historic lithics and pottery fragments found in Central Illinois used in farming, hunting, and food processing. The collection also contains objects obtained through trade with early European settlers and made by Kickapoo and other Native Americans for use in daily life. Collection highlights include artifacts gathered from archeological excavations at the Grand Village of the Kickapoo and Kickapoo Stockade, photographs taken at the Kickapoo Reservation in Horton Kansas in 1906, and manuscripts and documents relating to the Kickapoo People collected by Milo Custer." Also available online are the records for the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, providing a digitally available inventory of Native American objects held by the museum. See website for other relevant materials, searchable by collection, subject, keyword, or institution, or to learn more about access to physical collections represented within the digital archives.
