Description
Mihtohseenionki (The People's Place) is devoted to understanding the Native people who originally and still call Indiana home—the Miami, Potawatomi, Delaware, and others. The Stephen and Sharon Zimmerman Resource Center and the Watanabe Family Library provides a physical resource collection for those working on projects or simply those looking to expand their knowledge of Western and Native American art, history and cultures. It contains More than 7,000 books and exhibition catalogs, more than 800 videos and DVDs, vertical files (containing pamphlets, newspaper clippings and more) on artists represented in the museum's collection and subjects relevant to the museum's mission, periodicals, and other media. The collection can be searched through the Indianapolis Public Library online catalog. The museum library is not a lending library, but visitors are welcome to spend time with library materials in the resource center. Among limited digital media, select podcasts and publications are available online, as well as a documentary on Native art. Native American collections are available and continuing Native American exhibitions are located in the second floor galleries, for an admission fee. See website for full holdings and details on access.
