Physical and digital collections contain numerous historical resources organized by region. The Library of Social Sciences: collection focused on the Mesoamerican region that includes more than 45,300 titles, 7,000 documents, an extensive range of magazines, and a reading room. Holdings include the personal collection of Franz Termer and the collection of Antique Books that span from the beginning of the 17th century to the mid-19th century. Holdings are searchable in the online catalog, digital resources are limited, see website for details; The Guatemala Photo Library, created in 1979, represents the effort to rescue and preserve the visual memory of Guatemala. "Its collections portray the different ethnic, social and political groups of the country from 1850 to the present, provide a rich record of the country's historical evolution and reflect cultural traditions, daily life, art, architecture, political events and natural disasters. Today it has 192 collections that add more than one million images in formats ranging from daguerreotypes and negatives on glass plates to digital photographs"; "The Historical Archive is made up of private archives and documentary collections that, due to their content, protect part of the country's historical memory. These archives (some unique and others little known) mix the different points of view of Guatemalan society over the years and enrich the national historical legacy. Its collections date from the sixteenth century to the present, emphasizing the contemporary era. Currently, it houses 130 collections made up of more than 200 personal and institutional donations, made up of more than 8,500,000 documents."
