"Its collections portray the different ethnic, social and political groups of the country from 1850 to the present, provide a rich record of the country's historical evolution and reflect cultural traditions, daily life, art, architecture, political events and natural disasters. Today it has 192 collections that add more than one million images in formats ranging from daguerreotypes and negatives on glass plates to digital photographs"; "The Historical Archive is made up of private archives and documentary collections that, due to their content, protect part of the country's historical memory. These archives (some unique and others little known) mix the different points of view of Guatemalan society over the years and enrich the national historical legacy.
