Description
"The California Indian Library Collections (CILC) contains archived sound recordings, photographs, and textual materials (such as books, journal articles, unpublished manuscripts and field notes, many of which were gathered by Berkeley researchers in the early years of this century), these have been duplicated and installed in twenty-one northern and central California libraries" The Oroville Library collection now contains "a collection of materials specific to the Yana, Konkow and Maidu tribes of Butte County. Presented to the library by the California Indian Library Collections at UC Berkeley, the collection includes a photographic section, an audio tape collection, textual materials and a teaching kit, which may be checked out by teachers, scout troops, visitor centers and other research groups. Among the kit's artifacts are a fishhook made from bones of a deer foot, a dice game made from walnut shells and counting sticks, a deerhoof rattle used for many functions including a coming of age ceremony, a Maidu doll, and a willow openwork woodpecker trap." Finding guide to the collection is available online. Select digital materials from the collection may be available, see website for details.
