"In addition to a museum, the library hosts the Center for Native American and Indigenous Research, which ""promotes innovative uses of the Library’s collections that benefit indigenous communities and academic scholarship... The APS Library contains over 1,700 linear feet of unique manuscripts, photographs, and audio recordings relating to over 440 different indigenous cultures of the Americas."" The Indigenous Collections include documents from 1553 to the present. These materials cover a broad range of historical, linguistic, and ethnographic information, found in a variety of forms, such as field notebooks, correspondence, maps, and compilations of stories and vocabularies. Audio materials include songs, stories, interviews, and other content in 162 different indigenous languages. Image collections contain tens of thousands of drawings, prints, and photographs.
